Lotus?

Tips. Советы

By Joe Dolittle

This is my first Lotusphere. I've done a lot of other tradeshows, but the way the other editors talk about Lotusphere, I know it's got to be something special.

I asked the other editors if they had any tips to help me get ready for my first experience.

Here's what they told me:

1. Wear comfortable shoes. It starts off feeling fine, but by the last day, your shoes are all that stand between you and pain through all of February.

2. Don't expect to connect wirelessly. Lotusphere usually has email access locations, but the wireless connectivity often sucks. Not thrilled about that.

3. Visit both the exhibits and the sessions. The editors tell me that there's a lot to be learned in the sessions, but there are a lot of interesting innovators (and potential employers) down in the exhibit hall.

4. The Dolphin's breakfast buffet rocks. The Dolphin has an excellent breakfast omelet at their buffet. We're editors. Food is pretty much the most important factor.

5. Parking is a challenge. If you're not staying at the Dolphin or Swan, you'll need to park at Epcot or another designated parking location. We are still -- at this late date -- trying to find out where that is, since the various Lotusphere sites still say "check back".

6. The Lotusphere lunches aren't bad. Back to food, I'm told that the meals provided by Lotusphere aren't half bad. They're worth going to if you're hungry.

7. Bring a swimsuit. If you're coming to Orlando from someplace cold, nothing beats taking a dip at night in one of the many hot tubs and pools at Orlando's hotels. Make sure you avail yourself of this simple pleasure.

8. Bring lots of business cards. Pack three times more than you think you'll need. Schmoozing is good, and you should never run out.

9. The schmoozing is good. David and Denise tell me that the people interaction and friendliness at Lotusphere is beyond compare. The parties, the schmoozing, and the genial atmosphere makes the show.

10. Don't miss the Birds-of-a-Feather. I'm told this is where the real work (and play) of the show gets done and if there's any don't-miss element of Lotusphere, this is it.

So there you go. Ten tips from the veterans, passed from them to me, and then from me to you.

See you there!

MAKE_DOMINO_AND_BACKUPS_GO_FASTER=1
This solution exists and it is called Defrag.NSF. If you let Domino do its thing, your databases will rapidly fragment and this saps server performance. Compact is the worst culprit, and this affects SANs as well.

Defrag.NSF corrects and helps prevent this damage and brings your databases back into line.

Chris Miller has posted a map of the ballroom floor showing where Lotusphere exhibitors can be found. It seems some exhibitor spaces have been moved recently.

Idea:
When working on a Lotus Script, debugging is either on or off, and all Lotus scripts are at debug mode (even when working with email, calendar).
Great help would be to add a "Snooze debug for 5 minutes" button, placed at the same location
as "Continue","Step Into","Step Over","Stop","Close debugger" buttons.
So user will be able pause debugging and work on emails for some time

Tags: sametime keys
Idea:
Sametime is a great tool for real time communication. And we all use short cuts like "ttyl", "thx", "yw", etc. to same a few key strokes.

I propose to add a set of customisable short-cut keys to sametime, so that users could make some of their most common actions faster and more convenient. These actions could include: (1) commonly used phrases such as "Hi", "Thank you", etc. (2) close the sametime window; (3) change sametime status to "do not disturb" or others; (4) add Emotion Icons. This feature could be very helpful for people on the go, or when they are presenting at a meeting.

For example, a user could set Ctrl-t to be "thank you!", and each time he/she needs to send this through sametime, all that needs to be done is for him/her to hit Ctrl-t. Or he/she can set F1 key to send "I am busy, will get back to you later." plus close the sametime window.

Tony McGuckin, Martin Donnelly, Maire Kehoe, Lorcan McDonald, Colin McIlwaine, Kathy Howard, Philippe Riand from the XPages development team have updated the teamroom template and contributed it to OpenNTF. Download the application and please ...

Intermittently, in some Notes 8.5.2 Standard clients running on Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit, an incorrect image displays for all attachment icons. The issue is not limited to a particular attachment filetype or extension, and it also is not limited to a particular application type (e.g., not just mail files). Typically, the incorrect image that displays resembles one of the following two icons: a blue green circle inside a black square or a black circle above a black square.
