Расскажите, что чаще американцы употребляют в будущем времени – will или gonna.

AE: Нашего человека в англоговорящем мире можно сразу узнать по тому, как он строит английские предложения будущего времени. Естественно, то и дело мы используем глагол will. Но вот сами американцы и англичане все чаще и чаще образуют будущее время при помощи не привычного для нас will, а непривычного в таких случаях to come (приходить) в продолженной форме: coming. The train will come at 10.30. Если кто-то там is coming, то дословно и переводят: кто-то уже идет, сейчас придет, на подходе. Короче будет. Это касается как одушевленных предметов, так и неодушевленных, в разряд которых по английским правилам входят и животные.

Еще будущее время передается при помощи to be going to, чему нас учат, естественно, во всех школах и институтах. Правда, в этом случае не следует выражение типа I am going to write you (я собираюсь вам написать) переводить, обязательно используя слово "собираться". Можно сказать куда проще: I'm gonna write you (я напишу вам).

В устной речи уже давно и активно используется упрощенная форма от to be going to — to be gonna. Это даже не слэнг, как многие думают, а общепринятая разговорная форма. I'm gonna call you tonight (по-американски вместо night можно написать и nite). Это вариант тоже куда более распространен, чем I will call you tonight. Так что, will обречен на медленное вымирание? Нет. Его тоже активно используют, но в качестве вежливого обращения: will you be so kind ... will you close the door ... To есть когда вас вежливо просят о некой услуге: закрыть дверь, окно, перезвонить, зайти позже... Так же активно will используется в кратких ответах, когда спрашивают о ваших либо не ваших действиях в будущем времени: Will you come tomorrow? (He придёте ли вы завтра ?) I heard you're gonna make up a new song? (Слышал, вы собираетесь со стряпать новую песню?) Yes, I will (да, приду, да, буду, да, сделаю).

Не то чтобы will сдавал позиции. Просто соmе и gonna отвоевывают позиции под лучами англоязычного солнца.

Woman wants Billy Joel to pay for damage to her house

BAYVILLE , N.Y. (AP) A 93-year-old woman whose house was damaged when Billy Joel slammed into it with his car had never heard of the Long Island rocker until the accident, but said she expects him to pay for repairs.

Maria Dono, of Bayville, said she had no idea who Joel was until Sunday afternoon, when she returned from a shopping trip to find him speaking with police outside her house.

"He hit my bushes and the wall. He'd better come fix it," Maria Dono told The New York Post for Tuesday editions. "I'm sure he has money."

Claire Mercuri, a spokeswoman for Joel, said the rocker's "main concern" was to repair the damage.

"He's taken immediate steps to make sure it's repaired as quickly as possible," Mercuri told the Post.

Joel had been driving on Bayville Avenue when his 1967 Citroen skidded on the wet road and hit Dono's house. There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement and Joel was not suspected of any crime, Nassau County police said.

He suffered a small cut on his left ring finger but refused medical attention.

The wreck was the third car accident in two years for Joel. Last year he was hospitalized after smashing his car into a tree along a highway on far eastern Long Island, and he escaped serious injury in a crash in East Hampton in June 2002
