YOUR STUFF

Следующий подраздел писем-характеристик — рекомендательные письма. Они отличаются от "референс" тем, что если в первых вы просто сообщаете информацию о человеке, как о хорошем специалисте, то здесь вы, естественно, рекомендуете его: в конце письма добавляете или даете понять, что без этого парня компания просто пропадет.
Ну, примерно так:
    Therefore, I can recommend Mr. Cash, without any hesitation for the position of your travel agency.

Рекомендательное письмо в принципе только этой деталью и отличается от "референс", а точнее, вашей личной рекомендацией в конце, как только что было показано в примере. И характеристика, и рекомендация должны включать обоснование цели письма и перечисление, по возможности, всех должностных обязанностей и выдающихся качеств того, кому дают эту характеристику или рекомендацию.


QUESTION

Откуда произошло выражение OK?

AE: существует общепринятая байка по этому поводу. OK берет начало от ол коррект – все правильно.
Хотя по-английски это выражение пишется несколько другими буквами: all correct. Но один американец немецкого происхождения, привыкший, что в немецком как слышится, так и пишется, помечал все документы, которые одобрял, «OK». Те, кто имел с этим парнем дело, запомнили, что «оу» и «кей» - есть хорошо. С тех пор OK признал весь мир.

    ...По телеку как-то давно показывали сериал «Агентство «Лунный свет» с моим любимым актером Брюсом Уиллисом. Подруга где-то слышала, что переводчик неправильно перевел название фильма. Подскажите, пожалуйста, в чем там дело.

AE: to moonlight – означает что-то вроде подработки. Так вот, название этого сериала правильнее было бы перевести как “Агентство “Халтура”.Даже в русском языке устойчиво закрепилось выражение “мунлайтинг” - шабашка. По-английски красивее, правда? А что касается некомпетентности переводчика, то это сплошь и рядом. Пример: в фильме “Тупой и еще тупее” в тот момент, когда друзья-кретины выкидывают очередной номер, их подруга в изнеможении говорит: “ Я описалась”. Переводчик так сказал, хотя на самом деле прозвучало: “I’m pissed off ” - “ Как они меня уже достали!” To piss с предлогом off имеет в сленге несколько иное значение. Разговорному языку американцев ни в одном ВУЗе не учат. Это только и можно понять, поживя за границей.
