How do I set up a websdr using just a RTLsdr dongle?
2024-04-26 12:53 /u/a_PersonUnknown

Can I set up a websdr using just a RTLsdr dongle for personal use? If so, what would the software required be?

cheaper rtl-sdr v3,
2024-04-26 05:13 /u/jjgonz8band

I have a genuine rtl-sdr v4 dongle, it works quite well with Sharp Sdr...

I recently bought an inexpensive rtl-sdr v3 which turned out to be a fake, it works well for frequencies around 28 MHz, but when I try to tune it below 28 MHz I don't receive any signals on sharp sdr.

Is there an sdr software program that can run the rtl-sdr v3 dongle and can make the fake dongle operate like the v4 dongle? Using special software processing or settings?

DSD Plus Kills all my audio output. ???
2024-04-26 03:29 /u/Saxman31

Using DSD plus and VAC with: SDRPlay Connect SDRUNO SDR#

All software plays analog frequency audio out my pc speakers. When I send the audio out via VAC, I see the wave and the decoding of DMR, but no audio output on any frequency. DSD Plus shows the input and output as being correct. What am I missing? Thanks.

Sub $1000 3 GHz+, 100MSPS+, 100MHz+ bandwidth, 12 bit+, RX+TX SDR?
2024-04-26 03:01 /u/GreatestEngineerEver

There used to be something $200 called the XTRX, I have looked everywhere on the internet, and it doesn't exist anymore. The LimeSDR XTRX looks similar, but is $800! If I'm paying $800, I want something with at least 200 MHz of bandwidth!

Does anyone know of anything that has these capabilities?

Getting back into RTLSDR after 10 years (what's the best receiver atm?)
2024-04-25 23:48 /u/allnamesiwantareused

Hello Everyone,

Because of a lot of reasons, my RTLSDR hobby has been neglected for over 10 years and I'm looking to get back into it but are facing some issues.

I used to have a cheap mini RTL2832U receiver hooked up to my discone antenna and was able to receive a lot of HAM communication, large area ADS-B and great NOAA reception. This receiver got damaged by water and I never replaced it.

About 6 years go I purchased a new dongle which I never got around to setting up. A week ago I hooked it up and started using it, but I am facing a lot of issues.

I almost got no HAM reception, very limited ADSB ,the noaa reception is terrible and i got a lot of noise/interference. I dismantled my discone, cleaned all connections and hooked it back up with no improvement. A new cable is on its way but I am thinking the dongle is just trash.

The dongle I'm currently using is a newgen RTL2832U usb receiver, I have no idea where I got it from, but as far as I can see it's a cheap AliExpress dongle. I am suspecting this is the culprit. Or does anyone else have suggestions on what the cause of my issues could be? And if you also think it's the receiver what's the best affordable USB RTL-SDR receiver atm?

TLDR: Terrible reception, think my receiver is trash, what's the best (affordable) receiver?

Cant capture any L band Signal from NOAA 19
2024-04-25 21:45 /u/myquestionmalware

Hi everyone, I'm new to receiving satellite signals and I'm having trouble picking up NOAA-19 L-band signals. I've tried capturing it a couple of times, but I'm not getting any signal. I'm unsure if it's an issue with my SDR# settings or the antenna's compatibility.

Here's what I've done so far:

Antenna: I'm using the L-band antenna from RTLSDR. Satellite Tracking: I point the antenna towards NOAA-19 using the Stellarium app. SDR# Settings: Frequency: 1698.000 MHz Mode: WFM Bandwidth: 40 kHz Tuner AGC: Enabled Correct IQ: Enabled Other settings: Default. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any advice on what settings to adjust or if the antenna might not be suitable for L-band NOAA-19 reception?

Please help me with my RTL SDR
2024-04-25 20:40 /u/l1t0x

Hello, I bought an RTL SDR v4 a while ago, and I've been using the antenna and coaxial cable that came with it.

I would like to know if I can change something to improve VHF reception. I have the antenna at 6 meters, and I have good reception for VHF, but I would like to expand it further. Any recommendations? Should I change the antenna, coaxial cable, or increase the height? I'm new to this.

Venturing into the world of LNAs for the first time - advice sought
2024-04-25 14:30 /u/Obvious_Reporter_235

I'm looking at getting a low noise amplifier to connect to my RTL-SDR Blog V3, but as I'm fairly new to the hobby I'm unsure exactly what to look for. The frequency range I want to use it on is 119-500 MHz. I'm currently using a home made yagi antenna tuned to 130 MHz. I've also got a few other home made antennas tuned to around 440 MHz.

The two LNAs I'm looking at are the Nooelec LaNA Barebones Wideband Ultra Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA) Module. 20MHz-4GHz, and the LiebeWH RF Amplifier LNA 50-4000mhz SPF5189Z NF Signal Receiver RF Wideband Amplifier.

The Nooelec one is £29.41. The LiebeWH one is £6.70. As it's my first foray into LNAs I'm wondering if it's worth getting the cheap as chips one to give it a go, or am I better off getting the Nooelec one that's a more trusted brand? Money's tight at the moment so I'd rather not spend 4x more on something that might do an almost identical job to the cheap one.

I'm not overly familiar with what all the specs mean, but here's what I've got from the data sheets. I got the data for the LiebeWH from the SPF5189Z RF amplifier data sheet:

Range:
Nooelec: 20-4000 MHz
LiebeWH: 50-4000 MHz

Noise Figure:
Nooelec: 0.9 dB at 1000 MHz
LiebeWH: 0.6 dB at 900 MHz

Gain:
Nooelec: 20 dB at 1000 MHz
LiebeWH: 18.7 dB at 900 MHz

Does anyone have a recommendation about which one to get, or a different one entirely? Is there a real world difference between the two above from the perspective of someone who's new to this?

Illegal to listen to bought water meters and sell data to the owners?
2024-04-25 06:36 /u/lucho1111

Long story short I’m currently working in a community that changed all of their water meters, and installed new ones that transmit some data in 900mhz spectrum. The company that sells them offer their hardware for 100k a year but I created one that could do the same for a fraction. They are a small community son paying that much just for billing would be prohibitive. So is it illegal to listen and decode the binaries of those water meters to sell that data to the community?

SDRangel not processing inputs?
2024-04-25 05:28 /u/techtornado

I love the concept of that app, but it doesn't seem to work to process the tuned frequency and the data riding on it?

Radio interests are simple - Atomic time broadcast, ACARS/ADSB, Trains, etc.

End of Train demod doesn't work either and took a picnic near a rail yard which was full of EoT's and I got nothing decoded but there were lots of blips on the waterfall.

The reason why I am confused a bit on it is that I can hook the SDR to my Android phone, load up the ADS-B app and have planes registered in seconds

Whereas SDRangel won't show any flight data even when 1090Mhz has active transmissions...

Any tips to verify the radio data is being passed correctly to the plugins or is there some other magic modulating module that's needed to make fun things happen?

Decoding TETRA
2024-04-25 00:05 /u/World-Citizen-61101

Just followed the guide on the tetra-kit repository until I hit a dead-end. I want to know what might be the reason why no information from my RTL-SDR is being transmitted to any of the tetra-kit and tetra-kit-player instances. Here's a clip showing the setup. Does anyone know?

Sincerely,

Me

Weird Interference on 4651khz (Shannon Oceanic Control)
2024-04-24 23:37 /u/GreenLeon08

Hey I was wondering what that this weird interference is when I try to listen to that specific frequency for listening to Shannon Oceanic & is there a way to remove it, lower the interference down and identify what it is? I have an RTL-SDR Blog V4 and running the latest version of SDR# & live in the North East of England.

SDR# signal disappears when selected

SDR# signal disappears when selected

Airspy SDR# v1.0.0.1919

Nooelec RTL V5 RTL2832U clone

I sometimes see a strong signal like this

but when I click on it to get it in the center, the signal vanishes. It shows again if I tune away from it's frequency.

why is that?

what am I doing wrong?
