6x9: The Aftermath
Victor and Emmett deal with the consequences of their decision to take on Douda. Kiesha worries about her family's safety, while Jada and Darnell make moves to keep everyone safe. Alicia cashes in a favour from Bianca.

For some reason (the writers' strike maybe?), Showtime decided to split S6 into two parts. If it feels like it's been 84 years, that's because part 1 aired last August/September.

Earlier this week, the show was renewed for S7. You can watch on Showtime and Paramount+

Eurovision 2024: A Drama-Palooza
2024-05-11 09:27 lurkymclurkson

Eurovision, the yearly song competition between (mostly) European Countries is having a time right now. Most of the drama so far is surrounding Dutch entrant Joost Klein:

Bullet points to get to the goss:

  • There has been tension amongst some of the contestants within the contest due to the participation of a particular country.

  • The tension seemed to bubble over during one of the Eurovision press conference, when a Polish reporter asked Israeli entrant, Eden Golan, "Have you ever thought that by being here, you bring risk and danger for other participants and the public?". The moderator of the conference cut in saying "You don't have to answer that". And Dutch entrant, Joost Klein (who was sitting on the panel with something draped over his head before removing it), responded with "Why not?".

  • Since then Joost Klein (who is a 2024 fan favourite) was removed from the roster for the Jury Show (he was meant to go on after Lithuania and before Israel), the flag from his dressing room has been removed, he deleted the last 24 hours of his Eurovision Insta stories, and he has unfollowed the official Eurovision instagram.

  • Now there are rumours (not yet officially confirmed) that Joost was removed from Jury Show for assaulting a female photographer. Further rumours are saying this photographer provoked Klein by saying something bad about his parents (who both died a year within each other by the time he was 14 and who are dedicated at the end of his song). These claims are still being investigated.

  • There is video of Israeli journalist , Dov Gil-Har, seemingly provoking someone from Joost and his team by asking, "Mr. Klein, where were you? We missed you on stage?" and filming his entourage who ask not to be filmed (video can be seen in the first source, I'm having trouble figuring out how to embed twitter vids sorry!).

  • Italian entrant, Angelina Mango, did an impromptu speech at the Eurovision press centre and then started singing Imagine, by John Lennon. Is this a nod to the lyrics of the songs orrrrr another famous rendition of the song sung by certain people? It's a mystery.

  • When Italy revealed their televoting for the semi finals, it also showed the voting percentages of each country and the results were something... Israel received 39% of all televotes with The Netherlands following at 7.3% Was this a leak or accidental?

  • In non-drama related goss, Latvia surprised themselves by qualifying for the finals. They have not qualified going into the finals since 2016 and have the unofficial wooden spoon award for coming last the most in the semi-finals.

  • I'm sure there is more goss, so if you have some please discuss!!

Are you watching this years Eurovision?

people are memeing 'Dawn of The Planet of The Apes'
2024-05-11 06:48 sandstorm
Happy Kingdom of the Planet of The Apes weekend, for those who care. However, the internet is taking it back 10 years by .... memeing Dawn of The Planet of the Apes.

It started like this;

context: in the second of the mid-2010's trilogy, Koba was the bad guy against Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

and the internet said "alright, bet."

"Kingdom" is being called 'good, among the best...' but, ironically, 'not as good as Dawn'.

Unlike Madame Web and Morbius, these memes will probably help the box office.

Christina Aguilera Signs With 5020 Records, Ending 26 Years With RCA Records
2024-05-11 06:15 stewie_e

Christina Aguilera has left her longtime record label RCA Records, where she was first signed.

Fans have speculated over the past few months after 5020’s logo appeared on her official website. A representative from Sony Music confirmed that she is now under 5020, a new Latin label based in Miami that has others signed such as Nathy Peluso and Kenia Os.

5020 is under Sony Music, so while she’s no longer with RCA, she remains with her longtime parent company. On RCA’s website, Aguilera has been removed from its artist pages, which signals that a musician is no longer with the imprint.

Initially signed to RCA after Ron Fair, then senior vice president at the label, listened to her demo tape of Whitney Houston’s “Run to You” in 1997. RCA reportedly invested $1 million on writers, producers and voice lessons to develop Aguilera into the artist she is today.

She released eight studio albums under RCA Records. Legend X is currently on her second Las Vegas residency with “Christina Aguilera at Voltaire,” which resumes on May 31.

We have another Real Housewives of Beverly Hills separation, possibly headed for divorce. Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky announced their separation last Summer, and now her bestie Dorito has announced hers with her husband PK. This should come as no surprise to anyone who saw the last season. During the most recent reunion, when asked how things were in her marriage since filming, Dorito said, "better than ever."

The couple first wed in 2015 and share two children, daughter Phoenix and son Jagger.

Yesterday, Bravo announced a renewal for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, along with new seasons set in Atlanta, Miami, New York City, Orange County, Potomac and Salt Lake City to premiere in the 2024-25 season. Dates have yet to be announced. The official cast for Beverly Hills also has yet to be announced.

"We as a couple have been subject to a lot of speculation about our marriage. We have had our struggles over the last few years and continue to work through them as two people who love each other and share two amazing children together. To safeguard our deep friendship and maintain a harmonious environment for our children we have made the mutual and difficult decision to take some time apart and reevaluate our relationship while we prioritize our children. We appreciate your love and support while we continue to do the work necessary throughout this journey. With love, Dorit and PK"

Law roach reveals designers who refused to dress Zendaya
2024-05-11 02:16 milotic2

On the latest episode of The Cutting Room Floor podcast, Law — who’s styled Zendaya since she was 14 — talked about being turned down by Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, and Valentino when trying to source looks earlier in her career.

He would contact the big 5 and they all said no because ‘she’s too green’, but after scoring the American Vogue cover 2 years later, he made it clear that the initial reluctance was not to be forgotten.

By the time she got the Vogue cover, she had never worn any of those designers and still hasn’t, apart from editorial shoots. She only started wearing Valentino in public after a major contract with the brand in 2020.

Michael Douglas is talking about intimacy coordinators again
2024-05-11 02:13 silverstarry
If you felt déjà vu while reading that title, it's because Michael Douglas already shared his thoughts on intimacy coordinators during an interview last month ("I’m sure there were people that overstepped their boundaries, but before, we seemed to take care of that ourselves. They would get a reputation and that would take care of them.").

In an interview this week, the 79 year old actor was asked about current films having fewer sex scenes. In response, he said:
"It’s interesting with all the intimacy coordinators. It feels like executives taking control away from filmmakers — but there have been some terrible faux pas and harassment.”

He said that when he filmed sex scenes, the actor would take on the role now fulfilled by intimacy coordinators:
“Sex scenes are like fight scenes, it’s all choreographed. In my experience, you take responsibility as the man to make sure the woman is comfortable, you talk it through. You say, ‘OK, I’m gonna touch you here if that’s all right’. It’s very slow but looks like it’s happening organically, which is hopefully what good acting looks like.”

TikTok star ignites massive celebrity blocking movement after the met gala
2024-05-11 02:11 milotic2

A TikTok star named Hailey Bailey attended the recently past met gala, uploading a TikTok video of her night while showing her over-the-top look at the Met Gala lip-synching to an audio of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette’s famous quote of “let them eat cake”, as of a May 7, it’s already amassed more than 19.5 million views. The backlash was immediate and never ending to this day, sparking a new movement being coined “Blockout 2024” and the “Blocking Boycott.”

The phrase stems from the French Revolution and Queen Marie Antoinette being told that those in poverty didn’t have any bread, to which she is said to have replied, “Let them eat cake.”

The initial complain was influencers and celebrities have not used their platforms to speak on social issues such as Palestine. Also stating that sound choice was wild, given the state of things regarding wars, famine and other social movements worldwide. Other saying that the event was truly dystopian and compared this year’s Met Gala to “The Hunger Games” franchise with the obnoxious display of wealth.

TikTok users immediately started to unfollow and block Hailey but the blockout quickly spread to a call on doing a full social media cleanse of influencers and then of celebrities altogether, in order to cut off their ad revenue and influence streams on the general public. The most mentioned ones to unfollow and block are Taylor swift, the Kardashian/Jenner clan and all the attendants of the met gala.

Users are sharing the importance of subjecting these celebrities to the “digital guillotine” or the “digitine.”

Fembots, Explained: The Sinister Reality of "Perfect" Robot Women & AI
2024-05-11 02:11 theemii

The "fembot" (aka female robot or artificial intelligence,) is usually beautiful and completely programmable, and functions as an idealized, eroticized iteration of femininity – a woman without opinions, preferences, or sexual agency. She frequently appears in sci-fi and horror movies as a way of exploring the dark side of male desire, and the backlash against feminism – but also as a cautionary tale about the implications of an increasingly technological existence. So why is the fembot such a mainstay in film and TV – and what does the future hold for her? Let’s take a deeper look.

Toronto Granted a WNBA Expansion Team
2024-05-10 20:56 caitiecait
WNBA-logo-svg

The CBC has announced that the WNBA is moving ahead with a Toronto expansion team. This news comes just a few days after the WNBA announced that their players would be granted charter flights.

According to CBC, (who says that they have heard from sources who can't publicly confirm) Kilmer Sports Inc., owned by billionaire Larry Tanenbaum was granted the expansion rights for the team from the WNBA. Tanenbaum is a minority owner in the Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment (MLSE) group, and had been working on a deal with that organization previously. Unfortunately, the deal he had pursued through the MLSE was allegedly blocked by Nepohire Rogers.

The WNBA currently has 12 teams, with 12 roster spots each. Next year, 2025, Golden State will mark the 13th team in the league. Former Assistant GM at the New York Liberty, Ohemaa Nyanin, was announced as the Golden State GM this week. Both expansion teams and charter flights mark an important move forward for the WNBA.

Currently, there are four Canadians playing in the WNBA: Kia Nurse (LA Sparks), Bridget Carleton (Minnesota Lynx), Laeticia Amihere (Atlanta Dream), and newly drafted Aaliyah Edwards (Washington Mystics). This year's WNBA Canada game in Edmonton saw the Sparks and the Storm go head-to-head in front of a sold out crowd. The Toronto team will likely play at the Coca-Cola Coliseum on the CNE grounds. The coliseum holds 8,800 people and is currently home to the Marlies (whatever that is) and the Toronto PWHL team.

New Jurassic World movie casts Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as the lead
2024-05-10 20:44 sandstorm

The writeup mentions that he was in The Lincoln Lawyer and "he goes from defending clients to running from dinosaurs", but what if he was a lawyer for the dinosaurs? That'd make me watch.

Scarlett Johansson ("Sing", answering the question 'If a tree falls in the forest') and Jonathan Bailey ("Wicked", "Wicked Part II: This Time, it's Wicked Personal") are also set to star. Gareth Edwards ("The Creator", watch it!) will direct. Boy, maybe this should be a musical.

This is like a ... reboot? But it's still called Jurassic World, albeit Bryce Dallas Howard and Worst Chris are not expected to return.

Happy for this gentleman, and happier for myself that Colman and Dev do not seem to be in it so I do not have to watch it for them enjoy ya'll little dinosaur movie.

‘Shōgun’ Star Hiroyuki Sanada Inks Deal To Return For Season 2
2024-05-10 20:28 hewontgo

Hiroyuki Sanada, star and producer of FX‘s limited series Shōgun, has closed a deal to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga.

Other elements are still being worked out and deals are being finalized as part of an effort by FX to take Shogun to a second season in light of the big commercial and critical success of the limited series.

The outcome of the effort would determine whether Shōgun would be considered a limited or drama series going forward, which could have major ramifications on the 2024 Emmy race.

The drama series field is lighter than usual this year while the limited/anthology race, in which Shōgun is a lead contender, is one of the most competitive ever assembled in any Emmy genre.

Shōgun is looking to move into the drama series category from the start if a determination about a potential second installment is made in time to adjust Emmy submissions.
