In this issue we will speak about usefull idioms.
Below is presented a list of idioms. Learn it by heart.

Take sth into account - regard, consider.
Take part in - participate.
Take place - occur, happen.
Take a look - look at sth quickly.
Give sb a hand - help sb.
Give sb a ring - telephone sb.

Exersice 1. Fill in the correct idiom.

   She slept very badly. Она спала очень плохо.

Remove the parentheses, using verbs in Present or Past Simple.

Exercise 3. Translate into russian.

"I know you haven 't, said Professor McGonagall, sounding half exasperated, half admiring. "But you're different. Everyone knows you're the only one You-Know-oh, all right, Voldemort, was frightened of."
"You flatter me," said Dumbledore calmly. "Voldemort had powers I will never have."
"Only because you're too — well — noble to use them."
"It's lucky it's dark. I haven't blushed so much since Madam Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs."
Professor McGonagall shot a sharp look at Dumbledore and said, "The owls are nothing next to the rumors that are flying around. You know what everyone's saying? About why he's disappeared? About what finally stopped him?"
It seemed that Professor McGonagall had reached the point she was most anxious to discuss, the real reason she had been waiting on a cold, hard wall all day, for neither as a cat nor as a woman had she fixed Dumbledore with such a piercing stare as she did now. It was plain that whatever "everyone" was saying, she was not going to believe it until Dumbledore told her it was true. Dumbledore, however, was choosing another lemon drop and did not answer.
"What they're saying," she pressed on, "is that last night Voldemort turned up in Godric's Hollow. He went to find the Potters. The rumor is that Lily and James Potter are — are — that they're — dead. " Dumbledore bowed his head. Professor McGonagall gasped.
"Lily and James... I can't believe it... I didn't want to believe it... Oh, Albus..."
Dumbledore reached out and patted her on the shoulder. "I know... I know..." he said heavily.

Exercise 4. Translate into english.

-- Насколько я понимаю, мисс Ветровоск - очень гордая женщина, -- сказала Летиция***.
Нянюшка Ягг** снова пыхнула трубкой:
-- Это все равно что сказать "море полно воды".
Гостьи на минуту примолкли.
-- Ценное замечание, - первой нарушила тишину Летиция, - но мне не понятное.
-- Если в море нет воды, это не море, - пояснила нянюшка Ягг, - а всего-навсего здоровущая яма в земле. С Эсме* штука в том, что... - нянюшка шумно затянулась. - Она - сама гордость, понятно? А не просто гордячка.
-- Ну так, может быть, ей полезно научиться быть чуточку скромнее...
-- Где же это ей скромничать? - вскинулась нянюшка.
Но Летиция (что не редкость среди тех, кто с виду -- сплошь сироп и патока) внутри была кремень и без боя не сдавалась.
-- У этой особы'*', несомненно, природный дар, и, поверьте, ей бы следовало благодарить...

Она искоса внимательно взглянула на Дамблдора, словно надеясь, что он что-нибудь скажет, но, не дождавшись, продолжила. "Замечательно будет, если в тот самый день, когда Ты-Знаешь-Кто, казалось, исчез навсегда, Магглы все узнают. Я полагаю, он на самом деле ушел, Дамблдор?
"Очень на то похоже", - ответил Дамблдор. "Мы за многое должны быть благодарны. Не желаешь лимонный леденец?"
"Что?"
"Лимонный леденец. Это что-то вроде сладостей Магглов, которые я очень люблю"
"Нет, спасибо", - сказал Профессор МакГонагалл холодно, как будто это было не самое подходящее время для лимонных леденцов. "Как я уже сказала, даже Ты-Знаешь-Кто ушел-"
"Мой дорогой профессор, наверняка, такой разумный человек, как вы, может называть его по имени? Вся эта Ты-Знаешь-Кто чепуха - 11 лет я пытаюсь убедить людей называть его настоящим именем - Вольдеморт". Профессора МакГонагалла передернуло, но, казалось, Дамблдор, занятый разъединением двух лимонных леденцов, этого не заметил.
"Все это так запутанно, если мы называем его Ты-Знаешь-Кто . Никогда не понимал, почему мы так боимся произносить имя Вольдеморт.
