Advanced Troubleshooting of Installation/Uninstallation
This information applies to JAWS 7.10 and higher, and MAGic 10.5 and higher.
The text [Version] applies to the version number you are working with, such
as JAWS 7.10 or 8.0, or MAGic 10.5. For individuals needing to remove both
JAWS and MAGic, the instructions for both are listed together. If you are
removing
only a single product, please review each line and remove applicable folders
or files as directed. Instructions are provided separately for Windows
XP/2000
vs. Windows Vista.
Ordinarily if you abort during any part of a JAWS or MAGic Windows
Installer, the installer should back out any changes made to the system
during the partial
installation. However if a crash occurs or you lose power, or if something
else unexpected happens, it is possible that the installer cannot completely
back out the changes. We don't expect this to occur, but if it does, we
offer instructions to guide you through manually removing JAWS or MAGic.

Manually Removing JAWS or MAGic from XP or Windows 2000 operating systems
1. Start an installed shipping JAWS or MAGic.
2. Open the control panel, "Add or Remove Programs" dialog.
3. If any of the following entries exist, select them one at a time and
uninstall them: Note: Do not worry if any of the following items do not
succeed
in complete uninstallation; we are asking you to first try the normal
add/remove routines for individual components.
Freedom Scientific JAWS [Version] (i.e. JAWS 7.10) or Freedom Scientific
MAGic [Version](i.e. MAGic 10.5)
Freedom Scientific Synthesizer Eloquence
Freedom Scientific Talking Installer
Freedom Scientific Video Intercept
Do not uninstall the Add or Remove Programs entry labeled "Sentinel System
Driver".
If successful at this point, move to step 5 to check for and manually delete
any remaining folders. You are finished, and can run the JAWS or MAGic
install
again.
4. If unsuccessful in uninstalling, you will need to follow the remaining
steps, and use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. You can read all about
this
utility at the Microsoft web site

5. Use Windows Explorer to delete the following folders for the product(s)
you wish to uninstall or reinstall (Tip: Set Windows explorer to show all
hidden
files):
C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific Installation Information
C:\program files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\[Version]
C:\program files\Freedom Scientific\Runtime JAWS
C:\program files\Freedom Scientific\Shared\Braille\10.12

6. Download and install the
WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEAN UP UTILITY.
7. Run the WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEAN UP UTILITY. It can be found in your start
menu Programs listed as "Windows Install Clean Up".
8. Navigate to the listed items which start with "Freedom Scientific".
9. For each of the items which start with "Freedom Scientific" press ALT+R
and allow the utility to remove the installer configuration information for
each
item.
10. Quit the WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEAN UP UTILITY.
11. Open the registry by typing "regedit" in the run dialog.
12. Navigate to each of the following registry items and delete them:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Freedom Scientific\Eloquence
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\[Version]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Freedom Scientific\MAGic\[Version]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Freedom Scientific\Runtime JAWS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\JAWS[Version]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MAGic[Version]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\FSVI
13. Quit the regedit program.
14. Navigate to the following locations and delete the contents of the
following temp folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Temp.
C:\windows\temp.
It is OK if you want to leave the 3 folders named "Cookies", "History",
and "Temporary Internet Files".
15. Reboot your system.
16. You can now install JAWS or MAGic again.
