General Comments
 A research paper is firstof all an expanded form of expository writing.
Research writing carries source documentation that further explains,analyzes,or
persuades regarding a general topic from which you have
developed a thesis. The thesis is a statement which your paper supports, apoint
that you will try to defend against argument. Defending 
any thesis in research writing requires diligent reading and careful repoting.
The paper must reflect a caerfully structured defense of 
the point of the thesis in the body of your paper.

To the Student
  This style booklet is the result of a determination to provide a district approach
to the writing of research papers. It reflects 
several years of thought,experimentation,and revision.As teachers of English,
we endorse the style of the Modern language Association 
of America,and this book reflects the specifications set forth in the Third Edition
of the MLA for Writers of Research Papers. 
  Research papers are required in several courses throughout any american school.At
most colleges they are expected in most courses.
Some colleges seek high school research papers from students as part of the application
process.In many cases research papers aid 
in students admissions to colleges of choice and in their matriculation while
there.Each person whether in middle school,high school,
college,or graduate school who successfully completes a research project learns
information and skills that can prove useful later in 
several ways.Most important of all,however,is that research work improves skills
in communication.
