Once again about VLAD's CAREER ENGLISH DEBATING SOCIETY- [Jan. 22nd, 2006|06:54 pm] Dear friends ! I am REALLY SURPRISED at the fact, that I have received 6 (SIX !!) applicants for a day. Answering your questions, I would like to inform you that... We are interested in welcoming smart, ambitious, successful, good english speaking people ( it means that you have to be able to express your ideas and opinions ), because the main idea of such a meeting is to motivate each other for self-development and expanding career english active vocabulary, sharing our little joys and art impressions with each other, playing role games and enjoying intellectual communication. It is not a lesson, but you will have to get ready for that, learning by heart 100-150 speech formulas a week, just to feel sure and like a winner :)) As soon as we have definite information on the date, place, topic, we will let you know by email. PS By the way, as the possible number of participants will be about 10-12 people, could you give me a clue, where in Moscow we can get the most comfortable atmosphere ( a cosy sofa for 10 people around a table with candles , tea, coffee and lounge music? It must be located 5-10 minutes from metro station, not expensive and hospitable? Как говорится, по многочисленным просьбам трудящихся, 4 февраля открывает свою работу мой клуб Vlad' s Career English debating society ! Каждую субботу с 16.00 до 18.00 мы будем собираться в одном из кафе в районе Пушкинской площади в Москве. Начнем с кафе "Филипповская булочная" на Тверской, 10. Основные участники- мои бывшие студентки и студенты. Приглашаются все желающие, начиная с уровня pre-intermediate. Взнос за участие -150 рублей. Каждый участник дискуссии каждый раз получает CD-rom c текстами, программами, словарями, фильмами и др на английском языке для обсуждения на следующей неделе, а также принимает участие в лотерее, где будут разыгрываться книги, словари, фильмы на английском. На неделе участникам также рассылаются по электронной почте рабочие материалы в электронном виде для подготовки к дискуссии. Каждая встреча- тематическая. Для успешного участия в тренинге-игре Вам будет необходимо около 6 часов для подготовки во время рабочей недели ( выучить наизусть около 100 речевых формул, клише, выражений, прочитать и перевести несколько статей ) Примерные темы для обсуждения и ролевых игр Job interview My career My successful projects My favorite film, book, album My little joys My company The article of the week Working relationships What is happiness? Out of the Mainstream: Used to describe the ideology of any political opponent. 2. Bird Flu/Avian Flu: the H5N1 strain of Flu that resembles that of the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic where 60 million died. 3. Politically Correct: Emerges as a worldwide phenomenon. 4. North/South Divide In the US it might be Red States and Blue States but globally the 'haves' and 'have nots' are divided by a geographical if not psychological boundary. 5. Purple Thumb: The badge of honor worn by Iraqi voters proving that they voted in their ground-breaking elections. 6. Climate Change: Or Global Warming. No matter what your political persuasion, the fact remains that New York City was under 5,000 feet of ice some 20,000 years ago. 7. String Theory: The idea that the universe is actually constructed of 11-dimensional, pulsating planes of existence. 8. The Golden Quatrilateral: India's new superhighway system that links the key cities of the Subcontinent. 9. Jumping the Couch. Apparently losing complete emotional control; made popular by the escapades of Tom Cruise on the Oprah television show. 10. Deferred success: The idea introduced in the UK that there is no such thing as failure, only deferred success.
