Здравствуйте, мои дорогие друзья!

Вы уже знакомы с одной из наших читательниц. Она не раз выигрывала у нас в конкурсах стихов. Это Миле Малкова.

На днях мы получили от нее письмо. Привожу его полностью.

"Дорогая Ирина!
Уже два года пользуюсь Вашими программами.
Выучила наизусть 50 стихотворений и 20 скороговорок.
В октябре прошлого года 12 дней была в гостях у сына в Лондоне и
хорошо ориентировалась в английской среде!!!))
С удовольствием высылаю Вам ссылку на свой "отзыв туриста",который называется"Влюбилась в Лондон" и попал в число первых "лучших"!

Мы очень рады за Миле. Ее работоспособности могут позавидовать и гиганты.

Миле выполняла все наши рекомендации: учила наизусть стихи и скороговорки, участвовала в наших конкурсах и всегда была первой.

Признайтесь, кто выучил наизусть стихотворение Льюиса Кэрролла из нашей прошлой рассылки? Боюсь, что мало КТО.

А ведь у нас в общей сложности более пятидесяти тысяч подписчиков.

В той же рассылке я вспомнила известную английскую идиому:

"The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese".

И один наш веселый корреспондент решил о ней поговорить.

Я послала ему, а заодно и всем нашим читателям письмо в Интернете Петера Дрисколла из Новой Зеландии (Peter Driscoll) как раз на эту тему.

The second mouse gets the cheese
(I am writing this for a friend, you know who you are and I hope it puts a smile on your face which you deserve at the moment)

Watching the Olympics I’m reminded of my Uncle Frank who represented New Zealand for watching sport on the couch. Many a time a family member would reminisce with a shake of the head and a “Just the best I’ve ever seen”

Frank was a gymnast and in fact an Olympian who retired after a long and richly rewarding career at the typical age of twelve…..

My Aunt Gladys said he was known as the “Linford Christie of the gymnasium” and it was love at first sight.

On retirement Frank wrote three successful books on his sporting prowess - Lord of the Rings which they made into a movie………… and the even more successful sequels “My life in parallel bars” and “Chalk, three pairs of socks and a horse”

Frank was the mentor to me and all my cousins and it was quite a treat within the strict disciplinary protocols that we lived our life within.

On Sundays we had church, then catechism classes and Frank would pick us up for an ice cream and a bit of light relief after a morning of indoctrination and rosary beads bearing a resemblance to numb-chuckers.

Uncle Frank would pick me and the cousins up in the van and take and as always parked illegally as we all got out leaving the wipers turned to “fast wipe” as that way he said he avoided parking tickets and he never got one but we did see one armed wardens.

He would ask what was the lesson of the day and always have ancillary advice . If the lesson was ”the early bird catches the worm” Uncle Frank would tell us that to remember - The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese

In fact he always seemed to have a riposte - tease him about his gray hair and he would say its great to have grey hair ask anyone who is bald. Ask him to stop and smell the roses and he’d say “What and inhale a bee?”

He was a man whose lessons outside of life became more valuable to me the older I became, the older I became able to understand them.

Uncle Frank was the only person who ever told me the key to success and that was simply to


“Uncork your imagination and bottle your common sense“


My Uncle Frank lived in a wheelchair.
