An estimated 2,400 people have been displaced after fires spread through residential areas in Krukut, in west Jakarta's Taman Sari district, on Saturday.
According to a witness, Mr. Nurdin, the fire was caused following a family dispute, whereby one member, «poured gasoline on the clothes in front of the house and they start burning.»
The fire spread to six neighbourhoods, however only one minor injury has been reported. 210 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire.
Residents searched through the ruins to salvage their belongings. Social authorities have been provided with tents as temporary accommodation.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) heard the last round of appeals from banned Russian athletes on Saturday at the International Conference Centre Geneva.
The Russian flagbearer from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and Olympic medallist for bobsleigh Alexandr Zubkhov was among those in attendance.
CAS will deliver a verdict before the forthcoming Olympic games in Pyeongchang this February.
The competitors were banned for life and, in some cases, stripped of their medals following an investigation by the International Olympic Committee into allegations of state-sponsored doping.
Russia denies the allegations and is seeking to clear athletes' names.

Effigies of US President Donald Trump and his Vice President Mike Pence were hung and then burnt, at a mock trial on the outskirts of Bethlehem on Saturday.
Activists from the Aida refugee camp sentenced the US leaders to death for what they see as bias towards Israel and acts of injustice against the Palestinian people.
Hangmen then placed nooses over the necks of the Trump and Pence effigies before hoisting them up and burning them in a symbolic act.
In December, Trump chose to formally recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The decision was met with anger across the Muslim world.
More recently, the president accused Palestinians of disrespecting the United States, by refusing to meet with Vice-President Pence.

Azerbaijan: Massive gas explosion leaves one injured in Azeri capital

One person was severely injured by a gas explosion in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku on Saturday.
The victim, a 57-year-old shopkeeper, is being treated for burns at a local hospital.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire started after an explosion in the basement of the building, likely caused by a gas leak.
The blast caused significant damage to nearby buildings on Dilyara Aliyeva street in central Baku.
Local police have since cordoned off the area.

Hospital workers were overwhelmed with wounded patients from a massive suicide blast that killed at least 95 and injured over 150 people in Kabul on Saturday.
Footage shows the chaotic aftermath of the explosion within the hospital, as emergency workers struggle to treat the many wounded of the deadly explosion.
The explosion took place near the former building of Afghanistan's Interior Ministry, close to foreign embassies and governmental buildings, and was carried out by an ambulance strapped with explosives.

Syphilis-ridden mummified corpse found to be Boris Johnson's ancestor

Researchers at the Natural History Museum in Basel have identified that a mummified body unearthed decades ago is in fact the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother of current UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
Archeologists found the mummy at Barfusser Church in Basel in 1975. After 30 years scientists set about discovering the identity of the body. Using DNA taken from the mummy's toe, they discovered that she was in fact Anna Catharina Bischoff, born in 1719 and an ancestor of Johnson.
Anthropologist Gerhard Hotz stated on Saturday that although they invited Boris for an interview and to visit the mummy, he declined, citing Brexit-related business. However the UK foreign secretary reportedly stated that he was always happy to hear about his ancestry.
Researchers also revealed that the body contained high levels of mercury, used to treat syphilis at the time, which resulted in her body being preserved.

Survivors, family members, political and religious leaders and others gathered at the site of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of its liberation by the Soviet Red Army on Saturday.
Footage shows the nighttime vigil within the former Nazi concentration camp, with visitors watching on behind fences and religious leaders holding joint prayers and ceremonies to remember the crimes committed. Survivors also attended the event to pay tribute to those who died during the Holocaust.
Auschwitz II-Birkenau is a former Nazi German concentration camp. During World War II at least 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were killed at the camp. On July 2, 1947, the Polish government decreed that the camp shall become a state memorial to the victims of Nazism, a purpose it has served ever since.

Turkey: Cavusoglu calls on US to withdraw from Manbij in Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that the «US should tear its ties with terror organisations» and called on US forces to pull out of Manbij «immediately,» in a series of statements given in Antalya on Saturday.
In addition, Cavusoglu stated there is a «reliability crisis» between Turkey and the United States, and accused the US of giving them mixed signals and contradictory information at various levels of government.
«There is a reliability crisis, some say they will give [weapons], some say they won't, the president says something else, the Pentagon says another thing,» Cavusoglu said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that following their Afrin operation, Turkey's military will target Kurdish groups in Manbij, where US soldiers are currently stationed in support of Kurdish YPG fighters, and will continue further east towards the Iraqi border.

Prague residents reacted to Czech President Milos Zeman's win of a second term in a presidential election, Saturday.
One resident, who was pleased with the election result, said that Zeman's win would stop «insane migration,» noting that «everything will continue the way it is going now. The cooperation in the Visegrad Group will continue.»
Another resident viewed Zeman as «highly educated» but «too old,» adding that Zeman «has been talking rubbish for the last five years.»
A resident, who was disappointed by Zeman's victory, said, «We are sad. We were awaiting the victory of the academic Drahos. Unfortunately, it will be a shame again. Prague voted for Drahos, but unfortunately the countryside did not.»
In the run-off vote against pro-EU independent academic Jiri Drahos, Zeman led 51.4 percent to 48.6 percent for his rival.
73-year old Zeman has become the most outspoken critic of the EU immigration policy during his years of presidency. He also has pushed for deeper ties with China and Russia, holding a stance against EU sanctions on Moscow.

A group of Muslims held a mass prayer in front of the White House in Washington D.C., Saturday, to protest US President Donald Trump's travel ban on the one year anniversary of its signing.
National Policy and Advocacy Director Lakshmi Sridaran reported that hate violence in the US increased by 45 percent «from the year before leading up to the presidential election cycle.»
President of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) Mark Hatfield called Trump's travel ban «the ultimate insult to those who perished in the Holocaust.»
Trump signed an executive order on January 27, 2017, banning citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the US. The order was met with nationwide protests and court moves to block the ban.

Russia: St. Petersburg commemorates Siege of Leningrad 74th anniv.

St. Petersburg residents gathered in the city's Field of Mars park, Saturday, to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the end of the Siege of Leningrad.
During the event, 12 WWII anti-aircraft guns fired a volley to commemorate the city's liberation and honour the fallen soldiers.
The Siege of Leningrad by German troops started on September 8, 1941 and continued for 872 days until January 27, 1944. The blockade was finally broken on January 18 1943, when Soviet forces managed to open a narrow corridor into the city, with the city completely liberated by January 27, 1944.
More than one million Leningrad residents died during the blockade, mostly of starvation and extremely cold temperatures.

The film 'Death of Stalin' a UK-French political satire, which depicts a power struggle following the death of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin in 1953. Despite the fact that the Russian Ministry of Culture revoked the film's release license on January 23, Moscow Pioneer cinema held the film's screening on Thursday and Friday. Pioneer Cinema was reportedly the only Russian cinema defy the film ban.
