2008-05-16 14:49 durrenbe@yahoo.com (David Durrenberger)
We got hold of one of the Gibbon slacklines and Razors UK team rider Quinny along with M1’s Henry Johnson decided they would try skating it.
We didn’t think it would really work but it slid amazingly and by the end it was being topsided, true-spinned and even used to transfer onto rails! Check it [...]

Napa Valley Marathon News from the GodFather of Sk8
2008-05-16 15:14
D. Miles Jr., the GodFather of Sk8, is all pumped up about the Napa Valley Inline Marathon and Half Marathon that will take place in less than two months. Here's...
The 4th Ottawa Inline Skating Festival will take place on August 31st- best rates before June 15thbelow are some quotes I received in an e-mail;
‘The course was absolutely immaculate and the weather could not have been any better‘ Phillip Lee, BC
‘You folks organized a great event. … The new pavement made it the smoothest course I’ve ever been on. Sad that its all over and we have to wait another full year‘ Dan Thomson, Ontario
‘I was really impressed with the quality of the event. Especially the little details like the smaller water bottles and the way the volunteers handed them out in the palm of their hand‘ – Eric Gee, Ontario
Intravenous infusion is probihited, unless in an acute medical situation where this method is deemed necessary- read more on FIRS.
You can read up on some thoughts and add your own here; SURE DOPING…...
Here is some of what Bill Begg had to say; ‘This is great news, New Zealand skaters & Federation officials have been waiting on this one to be laid out for a long time.
They have become sick of the teams with the most doctors winning at the Worlds, as the New Zealand team, never has any doctors present.
Now perhaps the Spanish Federation have to come out & support the skaters, it ostrisized for blowing the whistle on one of there fellow skaters, who had a smorgasboard of additives going into his body.
…
I have always understood it was illegal for substances of any kind to be taken intraveniously, but untill Dr Pat Wallace has now laid it out, as to the letter of the law, no one has bothered to jump on these athletes & Countries who have been blatantly stretching the law.
Amatuers & unauthorised people Tampering with the body, on a daily or weekly basis to make sure all the levels are at the maximum possible are in our sport & its will be great to see what policing can be done to ensure, they are not living off the glory, of those they have tampered with.
We all know who you are & who is involved, up to now we have not been able to label them as cheats, now we can, it has clearly been laid out for all to see. This article is in black & White in the WADA regulations & endorsed on the FIRS official site.
In our Quest for Olympics now we have to fit within the guidlines, so forget about the team doctors booster skaters, unless you have a serious medical condition you are now on your own.
No boosters so you can train at Maximum.
No pre doses intraveniously to prevent possible tirdness.
No Worlds smorgasboard of needles being delivered by team doctors, the night before races, specially the marathon.
Yes many of the squeeky clean skaters have relished this day.
Hopefully Pat Wallace & some of her co - Horts can keep an eye on Hotel room & Corridor evening traffic at World championships‘.
Reading the World Cup Topics for 2008 section gets me all excited about racing and jealous/ wanting to be there. It’s hard to not get pumped up after reading this from Bill Begg;
‘Well Wolvega may be minus a few French & Italian skaters, but over 30 South Americans will be present to shake up the field, so lets forget about who wont be there & focus on who will.
This is the strongest ever competition in the WIC, with the huge influx of South American skaters, due mainly to the ever presence of BONT World wide, in their sponsorship & support of skaters.
In 2008 a top 20 placing is equivilant to a top 10 placing in previous years, as we do have an in depth Genuine World Inline Cup, in both mens & womens this year.
Many of these young bloods are very hungry for Success, as Christian Diaz Granidas showed in Sursee & the number of top 20 placings also in Zug.
Now the Dutch have a new breed of tough contendors, who apart from being fit, are also very fast, don’t be suprized if only one or two big WIC names are in the top 10 in Wolvega, particularly in the mens event, as if the couse is tough & the wind blows as predicted, the fields might seperate, then anything can happen.
There is a real Buzz of excitement in Switzerland as the WIC takes on new ground & a new challenge in Holland, long a home that many WIC top skaters loved to visit to race.
One Bus leaving Weinfelden will be stacked with 32 skaters from many countries, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Colombia,Venezuella, Ecuador, Chile & Switzerland‘.
This only looks familiar to those of you out there who think I live on these things, but to us this was some strange alien stuff.
Skating?
It was Cliffs idea-not mine.
Its been 10 months since Cliff has had any "wheels" on his feet (3 months for me if anyone is keeping score).
We did ok- I didn't fall down. Cliff had a "down on one knee" moment- but no biggie.
He was hurting. Me... it was nice to get the blood flowing once again.
I do love this stupid activity, even though I suck at it!
