Тема: CSR marks soaring sales with new Wi-Fi chip launch

Cambridge Silicon Radio has marked a thumping set of third quarter results by launching a range of new superchips for Wi-Fi. CSR saw third quarter revenue rocket 33 per cent to $77.7m (?42m) and by 344 per cent year on year. Pre-tax profit increased 24 per cent to $18.3 million (?10m). As the company predcicted a further surge in revenue growth and headcount into 2005, it launched UniFi, a new single-chip solution, which it claims will deliver unparalleled size, power, performance and cost advantages to Wi-Fi product designers. CSR's UniFi devices offer designers the first Wi-Fi solution specifically targeted at mass-market cellphones and other pocket sized consumer products such as digital cameras and MP3 players. It combines up to three Wi-Fi standards into a true single-chip and, significantly, is CSR’s first non-Bluetooth product range. CSR’s Bluetooth devices are found in over 50 million products today – 15 million of them cellular handsets. The company’s Bluetooth technology, BlueCore, features in more than 60 percent of all Bluetooth qualified end products and modules. Customers include Nokia, Dell, Panasonic, Audi, NEC, Toshiba, Samsung and Sony. CEO John Hodgson said headcount had risen from 237 at the end of Q2 to 272 at the end of Q3 with over 50 per cent of this growth in R&D. CSR expects to add further engineers in 2004 to support new R&D projects. Additionally, headcount will be added in sales, marketing and applications engineering as the business scales up. The requirement for more space to house the increasing headcount in the UK has already led to CSR taking on a 10 year lease for a 53,000 sq ft building on the Cambridge Business Park – a move that secures the space to expand the key engineering teams while maintaining the advantage of working together in the same building. Following the strong growth achieved so far this year, Hodgson said CSR expected single digit percentage growth in revenue in the fourth quarter compared to last year’s final quarter. The new chip for Wi-Fi is expected to be designed into mobile phone and consumer products during 2005 and production is expected to start towards the end of that year. During the last quarter, CSR passed the milestone of shipping 60 million chips and secured 78 design wins in the quarter with 54 different customers. Mobile phone wins included Nokia, Samsung and new handset customer RIM. Hodgson said: “We remain on track to meet our expectations for full-year 2004 revenues and believe the company is well-positioned to take advantage of the increasing attach rates across all applications going forward.”
