ЧТО НОВОГО? /WHAT’S NEW?/Moldova insists on its terms for Transnistria talks – RBC, 26.09.2008, Chisinau 18:30:12Moldova will resume talks on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict only
in the 5+2 format, involving representatives from Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE,
the European Union, the USA, as well as Moldova and Transnistria, the republic's
President Vladimir Voronin told journalists today. He pointed out that his past
and future meetings with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Transnistria's
leader Igor Smirnov had been, and would remain, merely consultations on conflict
settlement. Voronin pointed out that he would not sign any agreements or other
documents with Smirnov outside the 5+2 format. During settlement talks, the
President stressed, Moldova's official line will be based on the law unanimously
adopted by Moldova's parliament in 2005. The document stipulates that the Transnistrian
region is provided with a special legal status and considerable autonomous rights
while remaining part of Moldova.
