Is your city big?

Where is your favorite place in the city?

Why d'you like it?

Yes, my city is big. There are about five million inhabitants.

My favorite places are the embankments and the parks. Particularly there is Letny Sad (Summer Public Garden).

I like this place because of its calmness in the great and unique architecture surroundings.

Yes, it's a big, and very old and historical city. It's BAKI, the land of winds.

My favourite places are the city center and the seaside boulevard.

I like my city because I was born there and I've spent all my life there, and it's developing and getting bigger and bigger every day.

Oh, no. I live in a small town, its population is about 170 thousands people, but it is a delightful spot and I love it. It is a very peaceful place and beautiful, surrounded by lakes, rivers and mountains.

My favorite place is the shore of the lake, called Turgoyak. It takes me some minutes to get there. Turgoyak is situated in the west part of our town. You can reach the lake on foot or by bus.

It is a favorite place for many people. Turgoyak is called the Pearl of the Urals because the lake is very deep and clean. I often go there with my friends, sometimes alone. I like to look at the water, listen to the noise of the waves and watch the sunset. I relax, feel pacification in my heart after an anxious and busy day. I can forget all my troubles and find new decisions. What is why I love this place.

Мои комментарии к подчеркнутым словам:

1. В предложении с конкретизацией (particularly), вместо there лучше использовать местоимение it.

2. Если перед словами dozen/hundred/thousand/million/billion стоит цифра, они используются в единственном числе.

3. Фраза "поэтому" переводится как "that is why"

Тема выпуска - Как добраться до..? - "How can I get to..?"

Оказавшись в незнакомом месте, не имея под рукой карты или заблудившись, мы спрашиваем, как пройти куда-то. Хорошо, если дорога окажется близкой, а ответ четким и понятным. Если пункт назначения расположен в глубине кварталов, к тому же без опознавательных признаков, то опять помогут уточняющие вопросы к прохожим. Поэтому практикуемся, как узнавать дорогу и понимать объяснения.

Словарь:

to get to - добраться до

to reach - доезжать до

to cross - переходить. пересекать

to start at - начать маршрут у

to end/to finish at -  закончить маршрут у

to mark the route - обозначить маршрут

to look at the map - посмотреть на карту

to find on the map - найти на карте

to point at - указать на

on foot - пешком

by bus/tram - на автобусе/трамвае

it'll take you five minutes - это займет у вас 5 минут

over there - вон там

near here - рядом

round the corner - за углом

straight ahead - прямо впереди

on the left - слева

on the right - справа

to turn left/right - повернуть налево/направо

to look left/right - посмотреть налево,направо

across - через

along - вдоль

through - сквозь

past - мимо

opposite - напротив

Well, write down the route: start at Mezhdunarodnaya underground station exit, turn right and you'll see the skyscrapers on your left. So, the first tower is the one that you need.

Так, записывайте маршрут: начинаете у выхода из станции метро Международная, повернете направо и слева вы увидите небоскребы. Первая башня - та, что вам нужна.

How far is it to Red Square?

До Красной площади далеко?

Not far, you can walk there, take the next turning right.

Недалеко, вы можете пройти туда пешком, следующий поворот направо - ваш.

Excuse me, how do I get to Tverskay street?

Извините, как мне добраться до Тверской улицы?

Tverskay? Go along the street and over the tunnel. You'll be right on Tverskay street in three minutes.

It goes through the park and the new district.
