Despite the treacherous conditions out there all Rockall staff managed to make it in to work today. That said, all it took was a dozen careful steps.

In return I'm rewarded with a winter-wonderland-like view from the window.

If I worked in an office and needed to commute I think I'd have declared this a "snow day". That's what Quinn's school has done today and so the whole family is indoors right now.

Karen's like a giddy kipper and planning a morning of snow-based fun with other house-bound families on our street. Despite having told her I'm way to busy to join them I can't not be there when Felix has his first go on a sledge! Hence, as "head of everything" at Rockall I'm declaring this a partial snow day and we're off to find a suitable hill later on this morning. Finally the sled we bought three years ago is going to finally see some use.

I'll post photos when we return. I was going to talk more Flex today. That will have to wait... who knows when we'll see snow like this again.

Idea:
One of my real irritations with mail in the Notes client, especially with the three-column view in Notes 8.x.

When you have focus on the message itself in the preview pane, rather than on the message in the inbox view, the delete shortcut (e.g. backspace on the Mac) ceases to operate.  Therefore if you scroll down to see the bottom on the message then wish to delete, you have to click back to the inbox before it will work.

Therefore, my idea - ensure the delete shortcut works wherever you are in the mail client if viewing a message.

Idea:
Notes undo functionality needs significant improvement.

One of the areas where this is particularly obvious is around message management.  If I delete a message or move it to a folder incorrectly (say by drag/dropping onto the wrong folder) then I have to go and manually retrieve/move it.

The Undo function following one of these operations should allow the automatic retrieval from Trash or a folder.

Idea:
I am working on a View in an ordering system and I would like to display the correct weights for orders.

It would be handy to be able to select a number format as Weight for the column so I would not have to worry about the correct conversion (grams vs KG's and so one).

I am aware of different measure systems around the globe.

Abstract: The View Panel and Repeat controls in XPages both allow you to iterate over data sets. Views are quick, but tightly coupled to Notes Views. Tags: Router Cluster Network Performance Fail Over
Idea:
Domino Mail Routing delivers a message to a users home server.  In the case of a clustered environment, this means that when Server A accepts mail for John Citizen, it Routes it to Server B (John's Home Server), but since Server A and Server B are cluster members, the message is then REPLICATED BACK to Server A.

It would be more efficient if Server A was able to understand that it is in a Cluster with Server B, that it has a Replica of John's mail file, and therefore when it receives a message for John it is delivered LOCALLY, and then Cluster-replicated to Server B, John's Home Server.

And if Server B is down - the message isn't waiting in Server A's mail.box for Server B to come back up, and since John's Notes client has already "Failed Over" to Server A, he receives the message immediately.

BENEFITS:

1 Network transaction instead of 2.
Better Cluster and Fail-over functionality.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Include a new field on the "Advanced" tab of the person document called "Replica Mail Servers", and "Mail Replica ID".

When the Catalogue task runs overnight, it does a quick check to see if the replica ID of a database is recorded in a person doc in the directory, if it is, then it updates the "Replica Mail Servers" field in the person document with the Local server's name.

If a server is a member of a cluster, it's Router task does an additional check when delivering Mail to "John Citizen" to see if it is listed in John's "Replica Mail Servers" and instead of routing the Message to Server B, it deriver's the message to the Local replica. Cluster replication then takes over to transfer the message to Server B.

Tags: Traveler Journal Notebook StorageCard
Idea:
Today Traveler can only store Journal (or Notebook) documents in the main memory of the phone. I had over 900 journal entries in my Personal Journal nsf, and Traveler had huge problems storing those on the phone. Now, if only we could set up Traveler on the client to store Journal entries on the storage card, we could omit this limitation. In fact, on Windows Mobile the Notes (think Notepad, not Lotus Notes) application has a setting which let the user decide whether to store new notes on the storage card or not. Why not make it optional to let Traveler piggyback this option?

For me, unfortunately the Traveler sync of Journal entries are very limited today. Hope it gets done in the future!

Idea:
Today Traveler store journal entries directly in the phone's My Documents directory. I would love to see the idea of specifying at least a sub folder for my Journal entries. This would greatly reduce the clutter of documents from all places in My Documents.

Perhaps this can supercede the linked idea of allowing the user to specify Traveler to store the Journal entries on the Storage Card?

Tags: Smart Upgrade Symphony
Idea:
My organization does not intend to use Symphony. We have many remote home office workers who connect to the corporate office over DSL modems. Smart Upgrade downloads (Notes 7.0.x) in the past have taken a few hours for these people. Now that Symphony is included in the kits for 8.x, the downloads will take significantly longer. I'd like to see an option to either have a kit without Symphony or being able to remotely download all but Symphony from a kit. I know that I could use Installshield to build a custom package but I am not InstallShield fluent & do not have the time (or desire) to become so.

You are running Lotus Domino 5.0.11 or later on the iSeries platform OS510. The Person Document is set to "No Preference" for the "Format preference for incoming mail" parameter. However, the server crashes when adminP attempts to convert .gif or .jpg attachments.
In Lotus Notes, administrators can rename a room or resource using the adminp task. Once the rename is performed in the Rooms & Resources Reservations database, users receive an e-mail so they can update the room/resource name in meetings for which they are listed as chair. However, not all calendar entries update appropriately.
If you rename a custom control using the Design list in Lotus Domino, you do not see the new name reflected in the Controls palette. Subsequent attempts to add the custom control to an XPage may fail.
Your Lotus Domino server hangs multiple times a day and users are unable to connect to the server or the response is very slow. You cannot restart HTTP or the router tasks since there are actions pending. What causes this situation?
