The price of oil (BBC). (Not very actual, but quite useful!)
Summary: The OPEC cartel wants to reduce the amount of oil pumped (добываемой нефти), in order to increase the price which has fallen a lot since September. But the important non-OPEC player, Russia, has not yet committed itself to (принимать на себя обязательство) any big cuts. This report from Lesley Curwen.
Every _____ oil producer wants to see the price of oil go up - it's fallen by ____ percent in the last few months, as it's become clear that the demand for ____ is falling because the global economy is slowing down. The question is, how to _____ higher prices. OPEC is used to engineering them by reducing the ______ ___ oil it _______ . But it's worried that to act alone, without including its big rivals outside OPEC would do it a severe _______ . Its members would pump less oil, while the non-OPEC nations kept the taps open - and so OPEC would lose precious _____ , and its share of the market. That's why its leaders last week announced they will only make a large cut of _____ barrels a day, if non-0PEC nations join in, to the tune of ________ barrels a day.
That prospect has now moved a step closer, as Norway, a non-OPEC producer, has offered _____ cuts of up to ______ barrels a day. Two other non-OPEC nations, Mexico and Oman, have already pledged (официально заявили о) a reduction of ____ thousand barrels a day. But the position of Russia, by far the biggest exporter outside OPEC, remains ______ . So far it has only offered a tiny cut. The Russian prime minister is expected (как ожидается) to meet ______ of his country's oil companies on Friday to discuss possible action.

Oct. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Copper prices in New York surged 6.7 percent, the most in five years, as falling inventory renewed concern that growing demand in China, the world's biggest buyer of the metal, will limit supplies.
Global stockpiles (запасы) monitored by the London Metal Exchange fell to a 14-year low (минимум), including declines at warehouses (товарный склад) in Singapore and New Orleans. Phelps Dodge Corp., the largest U.S. producer, said China's copper use probably will increase 12 percent to 15 percent this year. Prices fell 2.7 percent yesterday after China raised interest rates to slow inflation.
A more than short-term view supports that China's demand for resources will stay strong,'' said Hans Kunnen, who helps manage (управлять) the equivalent of $14.4 billion at Colonial First State Investments in Sydney.
Copper futures for December delivery (контракт со сроком истечения в Декабре) rose 8.4 cents to $1.3375 a pound on the Comex (Commodity Exchange - товарная биржа) division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (Нью-Йоркская Товарная биржа), the biggest percentage increase since June 30, 1999. Prices, which have gained 46 percent in the past year, climbed 2.5 percent this week.
The rally accelerated as prices rose above $1.2965, triggering (вызвал) buying by traders who follow price charts (следит за графиками), said Jim Steel, director of commodity research at Refco LLC in New York. The December contract also went above the 200-day moving average (скользящее среднее) of $1.2693.
The prospect of a strike (возможность забастовки) at Phelps Dodge's El Abra mine (рудник, шахта) in Chile heightened supply concerns, Steel said. Unions will meet today for the first talks with the company since workers voted to strike on Oct. 27, Miguel Barraza, a union vice president, said. The strike would begin on Nov. 5, he said. Workers want the company to improve its salary offer.
