Now In Weinfelden, Leaving For Italy Tomorrow Night

Morgane and I left for Wienfelden, Switzerland this morning from Nantes, France. We dotted our way from one side of France to the other side on the TGV (France’s high speed train).

The ride was incredibly smooth and fast. We took three different trains; Nantes - Strasbourg, Strasbourg - Zurich, and Zurich - Weinfelden.

While we were waiting at the Weinfelden train station for our ride, Bill Begg screamed past us in his van, shouting ‘ehh Canadian Pete!‘. He drove us to the 200-meter banked track where Morgane and I skated under his guidance.

The parabolic track here in Weinfelden is incredibly different that the flat banked track that we’ve been training on in Nantes. After a few go’s at flying laps following a few skaters, I adapted to the corners quicker than I thought.

The track offers the seasoned skater a variety of lines and passing opportunities in the corners. At one point in the program, I was leading one of the drills. I stayed high for a couple of strides too many, and no sooner than I realized my mistake, 4 skaters zipped by on the inside. I maintained my speed and got into the group again.

I have a lot to learn and this is a good place to do so- even if I’m here for a very short time.

The plan is now as follows:
Go to sleep in 3-minutes, have my usual healthy breakfast tomorrow morning, skate with Bill Begg, walk around Weinfelden, do a lot of Olympic watching while updating SSW and doing other work, meet up with some 20+ skaters at night  so we can make our way in a caravan to Padova.

We will be racing in Padova on Friday and Saturday. I’m told races include 200-meters, 5k, 10k points, relays, and a marathon. [Translation: Lots of umph over two days]

Its late, 1:00am Gijon-time, and we've just got back from DINNER! Not noteworthy in this part of Spain, where breakfast starts late, lunch comes around even later (2-3pm) and dinner somewhere around 10-11pm. Looking for somewhere to eat in Gijon at around 6 or 7pm? Expect your options to be limited. Everything will open up for dinner, you'll just have to wait.Nonetheless, its late, so I'll save
