Добрый день, Дорогой подписчик!

Мы продолжаем читать и переводить рассказ Джека Лондона "White Fang" "Белый клык". 




1 The day was a repetition of the days that had gonebefore.

День этот был точным повторением многих предыдущих дней.


2 The men toiled without speech across the face of thefrozen world

Путники молча брели по снежной пустыне.

3 The silence was unbroken save by the cries of theirpursuers, that, unseen, hung upon their rear.
Безмолвие нарушал лишь вой преследователей, которые гнались за ними по пятам, не показываясь на глаза.

4 With the coming of night in the mid-afternoon, thecries sounded closer as the pursuers drew inaccording to their custom;
 and the dogs grew excitedand frightened, and were guilty of panics that tangledthe traces and further depressed the two men.
С наступлением темноты, когда погоня, как и следовало ожидать, приблизилась, вой послышался почти рядом;

5 “There, that’ll fix you fool critters,” Bill said withsatisfaction that night, standing erect at completion ofhis task.
 собаки дрожали от страха, метались и путали постромки, еще больше угнетая этим людей.
-- Ну, безмозглые твари, теперь уж никуда не денетесь, -- с довольным видом сказал Билл на очередной стоянке.


6 Henry left the cooking to come and see.

Генри оставил стряпню и подошел посмотреть.

7 Not only had his partner tied the dogs up, but he hadtied them, after the Indian fashion, with sticks.

Его товарищ привязал собак по индейскому способу, к палкам.


8 About the neck of each dog he had fastened a leatherthong.

To this, and so close to the neck that the dog couldnot get his teeth to it, he had tied a stout stick four orfive feet in length.
The other end of the stick, in turn, was made fast to astake in the ground by means of a leather thong. 
На шею каждой собаки он надел кожаную петлю, к петле привязал толстую длинную палку -- вплотную к шее; 

другой конец палки был прикреплен кожаным ремнем к вбитому в землю колу.


9 The dog was unable to gnaw through the leather athis own end of the stick.

The stick prevented him from getting at the leatherthat fastened the other end.

Собаки не могли перегрызть ремень около шеи, а палки мешали им достать зубами привязь у кола.

10 Henry nodded his head approvingly.

Генри одобрительно кивнул головой.
